A few days ago the boys and I spent the day at a local attraction called Parc Paradisio. Initially, this was a bird park and garden, but over the years has grown to be quite a zoo. The site is built on the grounds and building remains of a magnificent abbey. With crowds milling about and a temperamental camera, I cannot do the parc justice. But here are some shots from our day for you, nonetheless.
The pink building seen behind Gamma in this last shot today houses the aquarium. Go here to see some of the fantastic animal life to be found at Parc Paradisio, as well as a few of the monuments.

So cool!
Just from the photo, your mystery animal looks like maybe the head is related to donkey, along with all the other heritage you identified? Did you find out?
Are you kidding? I spent nearly two hours online trying to find the answer before I finally gave up and posted this! I’m completely at a loss. A pity I didn’t ask someone there — the parc closes tomorrow until springtime.
oohh! I found it! It’s a mara, native to South America. Hmmm, what it was doing wandering in the Chinese gardens I’m not quite sure. Here it is at wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mara_(mammal)
Talk about learning something new every day — “maras are the fourth largest rodent in the world, after capybaras, beavers, and porcupines . . .”
I never even heard of capybaras!
yeah, I learned a lot today I’m not sure I wanted to know… for example, I never realized beavers were considered rodents. As I went to Beaver River Central School, you can guess what our mascot was. As a girl, I already had to deal with the awkward namesake — I’m just thankful no one ever made the rodent connection! Life was hard enough as it was!
LMAO!!!
Big damn rats.
